Funding for 4 FTE chiropody positions has been made available from the MOHLTC and the Champlain LHIN to improve access and remove barriers to foot care services for high risk patients living with diabetes in the Champlain region.  We are pleased to announce that the Champlain region has successfully recruited 3 chiropodist to date.

Treatment services will focus on medium to high risk clients.  Prevention assessments and foot care education will be offered at regular intervals to low risk clients, and training and consultation will be available to partner health care providers by the chiropodists.

The funding has been flowed through the Community Diabetes Education Program of Ottawa (CDEP-O), which is sponsored by Centretown CHC.  Responding to gaps in services as identified by an inventory completed for the Champlain Diabetes Regional Advisory Committee, CDEP-O has arranged partnerships with a number of primary care locations to make services available across Champlain.
